2020

This was a memorable year... for all the wrong reasons :P

Still there were some good things too. For the first time in a few years we got out on the water. There was a small dingy we bought. The motor we got for the blue skimmer works with it just fine and it turns out it makes a not bad tug as well as a camping gear wagon.

Christmas has just past and 2021 has begun. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone. We of course are still walking through last years leftovers but things are looking so far.

Anyway, here are some pictures to remember the better parts of 2020:

Summer on the Island

It has been years since we have done any boating. Laura's mom was not up to that any more and so we did camping closer to home. This year we bought a dingy that the 6HP motor from days of old could power. We tried it out on Comox Lake and enjoyed looking at some of the cabins around the lake.

Then at the end of August, we put all our camping gear in Red and Gray and towed the dingy over to Tree Island which is a part of the Sandy Island Marine Park. We left home while it was raining but by the time we got to the boat ramp and had loaded our boats, the sun had come out, the sea was dead calm and we had a wonderful ride over. The Island was empty when we got there and only one other person showed up that Friday night. Saturday was a different matter... the evening was one big party we wished we could have skipped but in any case the site we got for camping was the one we like best. So maybe it was worth it.

Our week at the island was the best week I have had in years. It seemed like my whole family were different. All of life's worries were set aside except for the right now. Everyone, had dingy driving lessons and so while practicing we had the chance to see our local Orcas on a number of occasions. Laura and I made a trip to Comox part way through the week and as always, Comox was a different place when visited from the sea instead of driving there.

This is the view we had for our week and a half off.

Yes that is snow on the mountain tops.

This is the trusty wagon that got us there

And this is the one that pushed us back...

It turns out that half the cylinders had no spark. The flywheel position sensor had an open in it. That may have been ok if the button on the side of the throttle/gear shift would have let us start the motor with the throttle open a bit more but is doesn't. So I have a new control centre for the boat with separate throttle and shift levers along with a new key, cable and safety switch.

We didn't know that at this point though and so really enjoyed our week. Wonderful weather and aside from Saturday night, most of the island to ourselves.

Anchoring Red out was probably better than beaching. The dingy is light enough to lift.

When the tide is not out, we are truly on our own island.

The kind of boat Len would really like.

Christmas Time

While I have many pictures of people holding and opening presents, I am not going to present them all here. I will be looking for those that tell some sort of story instead.

Tim Is immersed in Christmas.

Mello Watches Tim, "Can you feed me?"

Oh yeah, I was taking a picture of the tree.

What are those big presents?

The Lovely Laura shows up to the photo shoot.

Her husband hands the camera to Tim so he can get in the shot too.
